Why Row?

Rowing combines elements of fitness, coordination, and enjoyment into a challenging sport.

Since rowing is a sport which relies more on hard work, commitment and team effort more than innate talent, it gives young people who may not have the ability to do well in other sports an opportunity to achieve athletic distinction. Rowing is a sport for life, so once learned it can be enjoyed well into old age.

Toronto’s youth row because they like the action and excitement of the race! Our participants row because it provides opportunity for kids to play on a team with their existing friends and to make new friends.

Rowing is regarded as one of the best forms of full body exercise. The sport helps strengthen muscles in your arm, legs, shoulders, back and stomach, develops your cardiovascular system and improves your coordination, discipline and agility. All of this helps your body become healthier and better prepared for other forms of physical activity! Our goal is to introduce this sport to boys and girls of all body sizes and athletic capabilities so that they can have fun and enjoy rowing for life.

Rowing is a sport that requires a great deal of teamwork and cooperation. Each participant in Eric the Red will be on a team boat with 13 other kids, so collaboration is very important! Regardless where one sits in the boat, each person is equally relied upon.  Coaches will be focusing on teaching these teamwork skills to each rower in order for every rower can have a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

A very small portion of Toronto’s youth has the chance to row. Unlike other sports that can be played with just a ball or stick, rowing requires a great deal of equipment, expenses, and of course, a large body of water. The Eric the Red program gives kids access to these resources and the expertise to excel and enjoy themselves in a new and dynamic environment. So why continue playing on a paved or grassed surface? Join us on the water this Spring and Summer and try something new!
